West Moors Library

west moors library

West Moors library has been on its current site for over 40 years. During this time it has changed dramatically. In 2003 an extension was added to provide computer facilities and a meeting area during and out of opening hours. Money was bequeathed to the Parish Council by Daphne Harrison which was used for the building whilst Dorset County Council library service provided the computer facilities.

The Library is centrally located on Station Road, at the corner with Moorlands Road. It is conveniently adjacent to the local shopping centre. Access to the building is easy to obtain for those with mobility restrictions - with door-activation pads for wheelchair users. There is a small car park at the rear.

The following announcement has been issued by Dorset Library Service and applies to local libraries ....

" Following recent government COVID -19 announcements, we are required to close Dorset libraries except for our Order and Collect service.

Existing loans due on or after 21 December 2020 will be automatically extended from the due date until at least 01 March 2021 (loans will be extended by 63 days). Should our libraries remain closed beyond this date, we will continue to extend these loans to ensure they do not go overdue. For items that are already overdue on or before 20 December 2020, charges will continue to apply. Items can be renewed using the Libraries West website www.librarieswest.org.uk, Libraries West app, or phoning 01305 224 311.

The Order and Collect service is available, offering you the opportunity to order a selection of books, DVDs and talking books which are chosen to meet your reading preferences. Further information is available at www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/libraries or by phoning 01305 228 400.

Whilst your library is closed, you will still be able to place any requests using our online catalogue for collection at one of our libraries and any current requests you have made will continue to be processed where possible. You will be contacted by the library when a requested item is available for collection so that a time can be arranged for you to collect the item(s).

You can return items borrowed from the library via the letterbox and please do not leave them on the doorstep, as they could be stolen or damaged."

Along with the building the library service too has been transformed. No longer are you expected to be very quiet - in fact you are encouraged to join in the many events we host. Self-service machines were introduced several years ago and all computers recently upgraded. We have also had the outside of the building recently refurbished with new windows and pathway and inside new heating system and up dated lighting.

We now see ourselves as an information point and community facility. Books are no longer the only thing we offer!
