West Moors Library . . .

The following notice has been issued by Libraries West ( operating the Library network across the SW of England )

We are delighted to let you know that from Monday 14th September you will be able to start reserving items again from the library catalogue, for pick up from libraries in Dorset. If your preferred pick-up library is not currently in the drop-down list, we recommend using your nearest available library. Not all libraries across the LibrariesWest consortium are able to offer this service immediately. We have placed a temporary limit of 10 reservations per library member at any one time to help manage demand. This limit will remain in place until further notice. The pick-up library will notify you when your reserved item becomes available for collection.

For West Moors: the date is the 14th September.

Before visiting a library to collect a reserved item we strongly recommend checking the opening hours first as most libraries are operating on revised hours.
Other Library Changes
From Monday 14th September we will be removing the temporary 28-day loan period and reinstating the regular loan periods (e.g. 21 days for books, 7 or 14 days for DVDs). From the same date we will also be reintroducing overdue charges and hire fees (where relevant).

The local Library on Station Road is now open for 'walk-in' users, but of course there will be restrictions. The opening times are:-

THURSDAY 9.30 am - 1.00 pm
FRIDAY 9.30 am - 1.00 pm
SATURDAY 10.00 am - 12.30 pm

The full list of restrictions, requirements etc., can be seen on the Dorset Council Libraries site - in particular note the requirements for face-covering, restricted numbers in the building at any one time, limits on browsing times, no casual seating etc., and if you need to use the computers, book / call ahead to get a 45 minute slot!

Other changes / expansion of the service & resumption of clubs will occur at some later date: when known, the detail will be announced here. In the meantime, keep an eye on the Library link at the bottom of this page.

West Moors library has been on its current site for over 40 years. During this time it has changed dramatically. In 2003 an extension was added to provide computer facilities and a meeting area during and out of opening hours. Money was bequeathed to the Parish Council by Daphne Harrison which was used for the building whilst Dorset County Council library service provided the computer facilities.
The Library is centrally located on Station Road, at the corner with Moorlands Road. It is conveniently adjacent to the local shopping centre. Access to the building is easy to obtain for those with mobility restrictions - with door-activation pads for wheelchair users. There is a small car park at the rear.
Along with the building the library service too has been transformed. No longer are you expected to be very quiet - in fact you are encouraged to join in the many events we host. Self-service machines were introduced several years ago and all computers recently upgraded. We have also had the outside of the building recently refurbished with new windows and pathway and inside new heating system and up dated lighting.
We now see ourselves as an information point and community facility. Books are no longer the only thing we offer!
