West Moors Library . . .

The following was placed on the Dorset Council Libraries Facebook page on the 2nd July:

" Following the Government's recent announcement, libraries managed by Dorset Council will start a phased re-opening from 8 July. The initial re-opening plans .... will provide existing users with an order and collect service. People will be able to order their preferred categories of books and other items to collect at an allocated time .... "

To see more detail of this scheme, the full statement is available on the Dorset Council web site: for those without access to a computer, then an order can be made by calling 01305 228 400

Also, from the 6th July, you will able to return on-loan library books ( or other items ) that you might have had since 'lockdown' by posting them through the letter-box; no charges will be incurred for items returned by the end of August.

Other changes / expansion of the service will occur later in the year: when known, the detail will be announced here. In the meantime, keep an eye on the Library link at the bottom of this page.

West Moors library has been on its current site for over 40 years. During this time it has changed dramatically. In 2003 an extension was added to provide computer facilities and a meeting area during and out of opening hours. Money was bequeathed to the Parish Council by Daphne Harrison which was used for the building whilst Dorset County Council library service provided the computer facilities.
The Library is centrally located on Station Road, at the corner with Moorlands Road. It is conveniently adjacent to the local shopping centre. Access to the building is easy to obtain for those with mobility restrictions - with door-activation pads for wheelchair users. There is a small car park at the rear.
Along with the building the library service too has been transformed. No longer are you expected to be very quiet - in fact you are encouraged to join in the many events we host. Self-service machines were introduced several years ago and all computers recently upgraded. We have also had the outside of the building recently refurbished with new windows and pathway and inside new heating system and up dated lighting.
We now see ourselves as an information point and community facility. Books are no longer the only thing we offer!
